Windproof jackets are ideal for protection on runs or trail runs. Their compact size and light weight make them comfortable to wear.
Rain jackets provide effective protection against moisture when hiking or cycling. Waterproof and breathable, they are comfortable to wear.
Warm winter jackets provide the protection you need against cold and moisture on extended outings.
Choosing your winter jacket:
- Softshell jackets, combining the functions of a jacket and fleece, are easy to use. Their close fit suits outdoor activities and a wide range of movements. However, unlike heavier jackets, they offer moderate protection against rain and cold and usually have no hood. Use them in relatively mild weather.
- Classic jackets combine a waterproof, breathable membrane with thermal lining. They always have a hood, sometimes stowable in the collar or detachable. Worn as an outer layer, they are well suited to all winter conditions, cold and rain.
- Gilets effectively protect the body from cold while allowing good arm movement and ventilation. They are relatively compact and suitable for outdoor activities, but not for rain or intense cold, particularly windy conditions, unless combined with a waterproof jacket.
- 3-in-1 jackets are the most versatile. They combine a classic rain jacket with a removable thermal lining. You can adapt to all weather conditions by wearing the complete jacket, the outer jacket alone or the lining alone. The lining may be fleece or Primaloft, a synthetic material that mimics the loft of down.
- Finally, down jackets use down filling to provide excellent loft. They are very lightweight, highly compressible, warm and extremely comfortable. However, their loft makes them less suited to a wide range of movements, and they are not designed to withstand heavy rain. Use them in cold, dry weather.
