TSL snowshoes: a family business in the heart of the French Alps

The first TSL snowshoe was born in Thônes in the early 80s. Just a few years later, TSL snowshoes introduced real technical improvements that made walking in snow easier.

The French brand carries out every design and production stage in France, from plastic injection moulding to final assembly.

TSL snowshoes are reliable and durable. The brand states it on every model: 100% repairable snowshoes. A major advantage over competitors to avoid waste.
With its trekking poles and snowshoes, TSL is a benchmark that we regularly use and appreciate at RayonRando.

Which TSL snowshoes should you choose?

The TSL Elevation snowshoe: for short days and gentle terrain.

If your snowshoeing plans are mainly occasional 2 or 3-hour outings in local Nordic skiing areas, across broad snowy expanses with easy walking, this model will suit you. The Elevation snowshoe is tough and has the basic technical features needed to move easily through snow.

Grip:

  • 6 replaceable spikes
  • 1 front claw
  • Traction bars: tough vertical plastic ridges to prevent slipping

Comfort:

  • Ankle support using a simple ratchet system, easy to operate with gloves
  • A heel lift you can engage occasionally to help on steeper slopes.

Elevation 305 snowshoes

Ideal snowshoes for beginners. Easy adjustment. For walks without particular difficulties.

Elevation 325 snowshoes

Ideal snowshoes for beginners. Also equipped with a noise and shock absorber for even greater comfort.

The TSL Initial snowshoe: an Elevation snowshoe with extra comfort.

If you snowshoe in the same easy-going areas but more frequently or for longer, you will want a little more comfort. That is precisely the benefit of moving up to the TSL Initial snowshoe.

It has the same grip features as the Elevation. For comfort, however, you get the clever BOA tightening system. This dial replaces the straps on the front of Elevation snowshoes. You can tighten the forefoot easily with gloves, while pressure is distributed more evenly for a more effective hold.

325 Initial snowshoes

Ideal snowshoes for regular walkers on rolling terrain.

305 Initial snowshoes

The same snowshoes for people under 1m70.

The TSL Up & Down Grip snowshoe: strong grip and easier descents and climbs.

If you want to tackle more elevation gain and steeper slopes without fear of slipping, the TSL Up & Down Grip is ideal.

For grip, it shares the Elevation and Initial profile, with the addition of:

  • 2 side grips, comprising 2 metal rails
  •     2 spikes at the heel

This snowshoe has the distinctive feature of a downhill support setting. With a simple adjustment, your heel can sink into the snow, making steep descents easier while keeping your foot flat. Less fatigue and less worry about sliding down the slope.

418 Up & Down Grip snowshoes

Snowshoes for experienced walkers, with very strong grip, quick bindings with shoe-size memory and a heel support system that keeps the foot flat even downhill. Suitable for people under 1m70.

438 Up & Down Grip snowshoes

The same snowshoes, suited to people over 1m70.

The TSL Highlander Access snowshoe: maximum grip and durability to get off the beaten track.

If you prefer snowshoe hikes in wild areas that can be very steep, the Highlander Access offers a reassuring solution.

A combination of spikes, front claw, traction bars and grips provides excellent traction on every snow type. Whether hard snow in exposed areas or powder in woodland, these snowshoes adapt to all types of snow. The deck also offers very good flotation, particularly welcome in powder.

A welcome comfort feature: the heel lift can be engaged with a pole. We have all struggled at least once trying to activate a heel lift by hand.

Highlander Access S snowshoes

For experienced snowshoers. High-grip snowshoes for all kinds of walks.

Highlander Access L snowshoes

For experienced snowshoers. In size L.

The TSL Highlander Adjust snowshoe: the Access version with added comfort for icy slopes.

The Adjust version retains the Highlander Access's strengths, replacing the forefoot spikes with proper stainless steel crampons to anchor you into icy snow with every step.

For comfort and foot support, the clever BOA binding system tightens the forefoot easily and effectively.

It is Rayonrando's favourite for the long days off the beaten track that we particularly enjoy.

Highlander Adjust M snowshoes

Versatile technical snowshoes, easy to put on for hikes over all kinds of terrain. Excellent grip for getting off the beaten track.

Highlander Adjust L snowshoes

The same snowshoe model in size L

The TSL Symbioz Hyperflex Original 2 snowshoe: comfort and grip first for technical terrain.

For some people with joint pain or difficulty on long hikes, overly rigid snowshoes can increase discomfort. The Symbioz Hyperflex model promotes a natural rolling stride thanks to surprising flexibility patented by TSL, see the video. This flexibility works in every direction, also making traversing slopes more comfortable.

For grip, this snowshoe has 8 proper teeth for ideal penetration into the hardest ground. On softer snow and for secure traverses, a set of traction bars provides support.

For comfort and foot support, the clever BOA binding system tightens the forefoot easily and effectively.

Practical: the heel lift can be engaged with a pole to avoid taking a tumble!

Equipped with TSL's best technologies, these snowshoes are aimed at regular hikers.

Symbioz Hyperflex Original 2 M snowshoes

Flexible, ergonomic snowshoes that adapt to all terrain. In size M.

Symbioz Hyperflex Original 2 L snowshoes

The same snowshoes in size L

How to choose your TSL snowshoe size

Each TSL snowshoe model offers a choice of 2 or even 3 deck sizes. To choose correctly, TSL specifies a weight and shoe-size range, reproduced below.

However, these ranges are so broad that they are not enough to choose the right deck. We therefore recommend starting with your height. On RayonRando.com, you can filter as a guide according to whether you are above or below 1m70. At 1m60, an oversized deck will make you step on your own snowshoes because your stride is too short.

Your weight, plus the weight you expect to carry, is the second size criterion: above 85 kg fully loaded, a large deck is better to avoid sinking. For more information, read our article How to choose snowshoes.

Here is what the different TSL model versions correspond to:

TSL Elevation and Initial snowshoes:

  • 305 version: supported load 30 to 80 kg / shoe size 35 to 43
  • 325 version: supported load 50 to 120 kg / shoe size 39 to 47

TSL Up & Down Grip snowshoes:

  • The 418 version: supported load 40 to 80 kg / shoe size 35 to 44
  • The 438 version: supported load 60 to 120 kg / shoe size 38 to 46

TSL Highlander Access, Adjust and Symbioz Hyperflex Original 2 snowshoes:

  • S version: supported load 30 to 80 kg / shoe size 37 to 44
  • M version: supported load 50 to 120 kg / shoe size 39 to 47
  • L version: supported load 70 to 140 kg / shoe size 41 to 50

Conclusion:

Choose your TSL snowshoes primarily according to your activity, from occasional to intensive, the intended terrain — broad plateaux, major climbs, traverses, resort Nordic areas or wilderness — and the snow type: groomed, powder, compacted, icy or wet.

Then refine your choice according to your build and total carried weight.

Safety, in terms of support and grip, remains the main criterion. But the TSL snowshoes presented here also improve comfort in use and ease of handling. These last points matter more if you go out regularly or plan long days of hiking.
