what equipment is mandatory?

UTMB, Diagonale des fous, trail des Templiers… These names inspire dreams in some people (and fear in others). Ultra-trail running means ultra-long exertion, but also an ultralight pack.

To ensure runners do not prioritise weight over safety, ultra-trail organisers require a list of mandatory equipment, without which runners cannot start the event.

The 10 best hiking stoves:

  • Maintaining heating efficiency if wind or cold is expected.
  • Fuel type (gas, liquid or solid hydrocarbons, wood, alcohol), depending on local availability and your needs for power, practicality or independence.
